Westfall Station Café, located in Westfall Village, Averill Park, opened its doors in September, 2016.  Since that time, the restaurant has been serving elegant, world class fare in a warm, casual atmosphere.  Westfall Station Café offers a spacious dining room, as well as a welcoming, comfortable tavern area and, weather permitting, outdoor dining near the fire pit on the patio.

The vision for Westfall Station was to enhance the Town of Sand Lake as a beautiful and vibrant place, as when tourists frequented the area by trolley to visit our many lakes and attractions.  Westfall Station is now just a 20 minute drive from Albany. 

Leading the culinary team at Westfall Station is Executive Chef Zachary Oliver.  Born in Bombay India, Zachary was adopted at age 7 by the Oliver family of Sand Lake.  Growing up he had the opportunity to work at Kays, Villa Valenti and The Gregory House, received culinary training at BOCES and graduated from APHS in 1999. He expanded his Culinary training at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, RI.

Chef Oliver was Assistant Kitchen Manager at Dave and Busters in Times Square before pursuing his passion for fine dining.  Those journeys saw him working in Nantucket, Cape Cod and Vail, Colorado, where he had the opportunity to live and work at luxury resorts. While working at Wolfgang Puck’s Spago, in Colorado he was offered the opportunity to move up to Puck’s Singapore CUT restaurant.

While working as Sous Chef at CUT Singapore, Zachary would meet his wife Lanie and a year later would move to Dubai, UAE, as the Executive Sous Chef for CUT Dubai.

After 2 years in Dubai, it was time to come home and find ‘the right fit’ to continue his passion for fine dining.  We believe it is at the Westfall Station Café restaurant, where Chef Zach will bring his vast experience and knowledge back to his hometown. 

As well as offering fine dining, we also offer live music on select nights along with drink and menu specials in the tavern area. 

The Westfall Station staff will go out of their way to please you, we will always strive to provide you with quality foods and beverages in an environment where our patrons feel welcome and comfortable. 

 

 

About Westfall Station Cafe

The vision for Westfall Station was formed to help establish the Town of Sand Lake as the beautiful  and vibrant place it once was, when tourists  frequented our area  by trolley to visit our many lakes and attractions.  It was also intended to establish another facet of a true “Traditional Neighborhood Development”  Westfall Village  by offering a quality gathering place for its residents and for the community at large.

The name “Westfall” is derived from the Westfall family who originally occupied the site since 1823, and were subsequently released from the Van Rensselaer  patroonship that dominated much of our area.

Westfall Village History

fallgazeboWestfall Village is a new hamlet is on the north side of Rt. 43 in the town of Sand Lake. A multiuse development, the parcel was known for years to the locals as Bon Acre.

Westfall Village is located on 92 rolling acres in Rensselaer County. This parcel has been used as farm land from earliest recorded history. Once part of the vast Kiliaen Van Rensselaer feudal patroon system, it became the Westfall farm. The Georgian style brick farm house, now on an adjoining parcel, and four other houses in the area were likely built by Harmon Westfall circa 1835.

Sunday Brunch: 10:00am - 2:30pm Sunday (Dinner): 2:30pm - 8:00pm
